World Piano Day, an annual global event, takes place on the 88th day of the year - in 2023 it will be March 29 - due to the number of keys on the instrument being celebrated.

This holiday aims to bring together piano lovers from all over the world.

Why does the world need a piano day?

For many reasons. But mainly because it can do no harm to celebrate the piano and everything around it: performers, composers, piano builders, tuners, movers and the listeners.

World Piano Day AMUZ Antwerp

Composer, pianist and yangqin player Johan Famaey colors the World Piano Day 2023 with a cinematically inspired program in which the piano is central. The main roles are played by pianist Johan Famaey, conductor Dirk Brosse, symphonic orchestra Prima La Musica solo violinist Marina Martin Maldonado and National Children's Choir of Belgium.

Johan Famaey

Johan Famaey played and composed numerous works with and for various ensembles and orchestras in Europe and China.

He is known for his piano and film scores, including 'Moon Touch', 'Moon Wish', 'Back to Selene' and 'Time Passenger'.

In 2020, his musical opera 'Hors' was performed in Dendermonde by a 150-piece orchestra and choir.

Dirk Brosse

Dirk Brossé, an internationally acclaimed conductor and award-winning composer, is currently music director of the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia and music director of the Ghent Film Festival.

He is also a professor of composition and conducting at the School of Arts / Royal Conservatory of Music in his native city of Ghent, Belgium.

Marina Martín Maldonado

Marina Martín Maldonado, born in Madrid in 1995, is a classical violinist praised by the public for her finesse and musical sensitivity.

Her virtuosity and musical passion have already brought her to important stages in France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Germany and the UK.

This Belgian orchestra conducted by Dirk Brossé has a variable line-up. The highly trained, carefully selected musicians have a broad view of music & culture. Prima La Musica wants to fulfill a unique role in the international concert landscape with its original approach and multidisciplinary projects.

The choir gave prestigious performances to, among others: H.M. King Albert II, H.M. Queen Mathilde and in the Palace of Fine Arts for the American ambassador as a farewell gift to then president Barack Obama.

Yaroslav Maksymets

This virtuoso pianist won countless piano competitions in Kiev (Ukraine). In 2022 he moved with his mother to Brussels, where he now teaches at the Kunsthumaniora Brussels.
